“Afghan Woman” by Halle Dziekan

The Taliban has taken control over Afghanistan; they have limited individuality for both men and women. The women of Afghanistan are no longer allowed to leave the house without a male chaperone and a hijab that covers them from head to toe. However, there is one thing that the Taliban cannot take away from these women: their eyes. Everyone has unique eyes; these eyes are ours alone. This piece symbolizes that the Taliban can’t erase these women’s true identities, even if they try to silence and hide them.
